  • On the article West Metro Education Program Superintendent On Leave, Principal Suspended

My son goes to school here, the teachers and staff here have availed a wonderful nurturing, respectful, educational opportunity for the kids who attend school here. Small classroom sizes, personal attention, a great curriculum , a wonderful environment. Unfortunately the upper administration has been completely out of focus of what is important here, our children's education. Their personal selfish indulgence has brought about a cloud of uncertainty, distrust, and disgrace to all that is important to the educators, parents and most importantly students who are a part of this system. Now we have to all pay the expense of litigation. With school budgets pushed to the limits the way it is, we need this money for education not litigation. I would call on the superintendent Jett and the principal Bennett to do us all a favor and resign, and just disappear. Let us all make a clean break from the damage you have done here and let us begin heal and to move forward again.

One opion at the meeting. Not representative of all opinions. The meeting was a great forum to express ideas and concerns. The impression I got was that participants were positive about being involved with expressing input. The park board was very receptive to all and seemed accommodating to working with concerns.

But security guards who are part of the same union will go into Sunday with no talks planned and a midnight strike deadline looming." from Stib article

  • On the article Bottineau Survey Shows Light Rail Support

    Andy Snope

    2:52 pm on Thursday, December 6, 2012

This survey was not done by "an outside special interest group" This was a resource that was used by a group of Golden Valley residence who happen to be members of the Minneapolis Building Trades and asked for their resources in assistance. A poll was done to gain the feel of support by Golden Valley residents. If the resident supported the Light rail project then they were asked to attend the public hearing or contact the council to voice there support. Yes, there was an effort to get supporters to participate in public opinion, that does not dismiss that there were a certain number of people who supported the light rail plan and a certain amount who didn't, those findings were recorded. Ms. Engler is reporting on a survey that was done, in the byline of the survey she states that is was unscientific. It was the only survey done up to this point and it has been reported on. I would hope the council takes all input on the issue into consideration; public opinion should only be a portion of the consideration, also to be considered should be the facts presented by Hennepin County, the Met Council and our other community partners. More so by the facts that are yet to be presented through continued study of this effort. This resolution will allow the continuation of this study to gather more facts. This is a project that will help create the future vision of our community and it's involvement in the bigger picture of a metro wide cooperation to build a better transit system.

  • On the article What Do You Know About Bottineau's D-1, D-2 Alignments?

    Andy Snope

I know it would be a great idea. It would be wonderful to get on the train in Golden Valley and take it to Minneapolis for a Twins game, the Mall of America or the airport. I would think folks using or visiting the Courage Center from out of town would enjoy the ability to get on the train at the airport and not have to spend $65 for cab fair. It makes the most sense to put the light rail in the same right of way as the existing railroad, there would be less disruption then cutting a new route through neighborhoods in North Minneapolis. Let's build it!

  • On the article Bottineau Pros and Cons: What Do Residents Really Think?

The impression I got from last nights meeting was that people were in favor of light rail however "not in their back yard". The ironic thing about that attitude is that those same people have no problem with the route that cuts a neighborhood in half and razes over 100 homes in North Minneapolis. The D1 route runs in the same right of way of an existing rail line, it make sense to me that that would be the less disruptive and less evasive routing and why the D1 route would be the preferred route.

This article is inaccurate the Golden Valley council DID NOT "unanimously vote down the transitway plans last June," Click on the link above in the article that states that and you will find that the vote was actually 2 for and 3 against.

It doesn't seem to me that Andrea Wiley is advocating that Golden Valley "get out of the way" I think she brings up some very good points that speak to Golden Valley get re-engaged. The actions of the Golden Valley Council have effectively brought the project to a halt and has put Golden Valley on the outside of the discussions. I would support a reconsideration of the previous vote and I think the Council could craft a resolution that would support further study and also bring forth the concerns of the citizens they represent.

I agree with Mr. Mattison with a proposed route down hwy 55 through the heart of Golden Valley and on to points west. I would encourage a lobbying effort towards that goal. Yes, a better proposal, I agree. I am pointing out that given the current proposed route, and the fact that it is further along in the process, that we consider capitalizing on the idea of a station in Golden Valley wherever it is and make a real effort to build the infrastructure to be accessible and useable by Golden Valley residence and the people who visit.
I am looking forward to attending the open house on the 23rd to find out more about this.
