More than 370 people ran in this year’s race.
The unseasonable weather didn’t stop hundreds of people from heading to the Brookview Community Center for the annual Run the Valley 5K Race/Walk and 10K Race. At this year’s event, 158 people finished the 10-kilometer race and 213 people finished the 5-kilometer race. Shari Stamps of Ramsay and Abdilkadir Tlifa of Fridley won the 10K race. Janine DeSplinter of Rogers and Lee DeKrey of Plymouth won the 5K race. Age group winners are listed below. Do you have photos from the event? The City of Golden Valley reminds residents that “Run The Valley Is This Saturday, Rain Or Shine (Or Snow).” Entry costs $30 if completed before 3 p.m. Friday. Racers can register online at www.zapevent.com or www.active.com. There is an additional fee for online registration. Registration is also possible: Race day registration costs $40. Racers can register at Brookview Community Center between 7 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Runners who pre-registered can pick up their long-sleeve T-shirts between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday and between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday at Brookview Community Center.

The annual 5K/10K race and 5K walk is scheduled for April 13, 2013 at Brookview Community Center in Golden Valley.
Preparations are underway for the annual Run the Valley fundraiser for the Golden Valley Human Services Fund- including setting up one-day parking restrictions during the event. The 2013 5K/10K race and 5K walk is scheduled to take place April 13 starting and ending at Brookview Golf Course/Community center. “Since the event is expected to draw a large crowd of people and parking lots in the Brookview Gold Course may be used for golfers and race staging, all attendees may need to park on local streets and in the lots at Brookview Park,” city staff wrote in a March 5 memo to the Golden Valley City Council. More than 500 people have already signed up for Run the Valley this weekend. The 18th annual run/walk in Golden Valley is this Saturday and organizers say they are excited about the community event. “Every year this event brings the community together for a good cause,” Golden Valley Staff Liaison Jeanne Fackler said. “We’re looking forward to another great year.” The event is the largest fundraiser for the Golden Valley Human Services Foundation (GVHSF). The 17th annual run/walk raises thousands for local organizations.
When Ben Pullen saw the medal his father brought home after finishing a half-marathon, the six-year-old decided he needed one. "I told him have to earn a medal," said Dave Pullen, Ben's father. The younger Pullen is on his way to doing just that. Ben was one of more than 600 runners and walkers who participated in the 17th Annual Run the Valley on Saturday morning in Golden Valley.
