If the City Council approves plans for The Tiburon, the apartment complex will be constructed on Olson Memorial Highway.
There was some confusion among Planning Commission members during their Nov. 26 meeting this week. Will The Tiburon apartment complex be built if the city doesn't create the public infrastructure necessary to sustain it? Commissioners weren't sure of the answer. In October, when City Councilmembers approved preliminary plans for The Tiburon, the council liked the idea of new development, but knew the proposed location on Olson Memorial Highway would need some public improvement, like sidewalks and improved street lighting. Councilmembers asked the Housing and Development Authority to explore the idea of designating the area near Tiburon as a Tax Increment Financing district, or a TIF district. Patch readers weigh in on plans for new apartments that could be constructed in Golden Valley.
On Nov. 10, Patch asked readers what they thought about three new apartments that could be constructed in Golden Valley, pending City Council approval. A number of readers commented on the article, and a few shared concerns about the increase in potential rental space. The new apartments include The Tiburon Apartments, Colonnade Apartments, and, most recently, Three.Nine.Four. On Nov. 5, the Golden Valley Planning Commission recommended approval of preliminary plans for a new apartment building that would be constructed at the intersection of Interstate 394 and Highway 100.
Residents who live on Circle Down in Golden Valley attended Monday's Planning Commission meeting in force to listen to presentations and discussions about a proposed new apartment building and senior living facility. In total, eleven residents spoke at a public hearing and ten expressed opposition to the project. According to commission documents, Global One Golden Valley, LLC wants to develop a 308 unit apartment building and a 118 unit senior living facility. Both buildings would be six stories tall and traffic would enter and exit through Circle Down. If the plans are approved, the first phase of construction would begin in the spring.
