Controlled Burn Sends Smoke to Golden Valley

A controlled burn in Corcoran on Nov. 15 sent smoke into neighboring communities, including Golden Valley.

Maple Grove Patch reported Thursday that billowing smoke seen from Highway 169 in Golden Valley was from a controlled burn in Corcoran. Dozens of interested drivers ventured onto the gravel roadway near the controlled burn to catch a glimpse of the fire. The controlled burn was aimed at some of the dead brush and weeds lining the bushes in the fields near Shutte Road and Brandywine Road in Corcoran, behind Corcoran City Hall and off of a gravel road off located near County Road 101 and Rush Creek Elementary. The Maple Grove Police Department, on its Facebook page, said the controlled burn was 20 acres in Corcoran. Firefighters Hone Skills in Controlled Burn

West Metro and Golden Valley Fire Departments were on the scene of a controlled burn in New Hope Saturday afternoon.

If you saw smoke shooting into the sky near Golden Valley on Saturday, don't worry, the destruction of a nearby apartment building was all planned. The building on Virginia Ave. N. in New Hope was in flames as part of a controlled burn, and it didn't go unnoticed. Curious drivers jammed traffic near the burning apartment, but neighbors were well aware of the event. Firefighters from both the Golden Valley Fire Department and the West Metro Fire-Rescue District honed their skills by intentionally setting fire to the building next to the Good Samaritan Society-Ambassador.
