Golden Valley Police are also dealing with a lots of kids up late and out of school for the summer.
While a large number of traffic stops, citations and arrests are nothing new for Golden Valley police, a few new trends have emerged now that we're nearly into summer. 34 arrests were made in Golden Valley between June 6 and June 12. Of those, 26 were adults and 21 of the 26 were the result of traffic stops. From driving with suspended licenses to driving under the influence, these are typical arrests for the city. And as with most weeks, the majority of those arrested live somewhere else. Only 6 of the 26 adults arrested actually live in Golden Valley. But one detail that stands out in the city's arrest report is the number of citations given to only three people. Police wrote a total of 45 citations after stopping only three people …

The good news is that this is non-violent crime and often traffic-related.
Arrests of non-residents have remained high, and May 2 - May 8 proved no exception. 75 percent of individuals taken into custody last week were not from the area. Of 24 adults arrested, only six were from Golden Valley. Such statistics reinforce April trends, as do large numbers of traffic related offenses. Around half of all arrests involved driving with a suspended or revoked license. Two individuals were reported as driving while impaired. Other instances of arrest included three persons with outstanding warrants and two cases of soliciting without a license. Police say they expect a relatively high percentage of people arrested in Golden Valley don't live here because I-394 and highways 55 and 100 run right through the city. No …

Once again, most of the arrests were for traffic violations.
Traffic citations and arresting folks who don't actually live in Golden Valley is a trend that continued last week. 68 percent of arrests from April 18 - April 24 included people driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license (see attached incident and arrest reports). Of the 19 people arrested, police report that two were driving while intoxicated. And the numbers continue the April trend, only 16 percent of the arrests were actual residents of Golden Valley. In fact, on a regular basis more than 80 percent of those arrested are not from here. "You could say this shows our residents are an extremely law-abiding group," Golden Valley crime analyst Joanne Paul told Patch about the trend last week. "And we can be proud of that." …

Most people arrested in Golden Valley don't actually live here. It's a trend we've seen all month long, and one police have seen for years.
Karen Andrews, a wife and mother of three, has lived in Golden Valley for the last ten years and says one the reasons her family has never considered moving is because despite how close Golden Valley is to downtown Minneapolis, she doesn't worry about violent crime. In addressing various neighborhood watch groups in the past few months, police have said they're pleased with the recent downward trend of violent crime in Golden Valley, but they do acknowledge a problem with the number of people they arrest who don't actually live here. "It makes me nervous that so many people come here to commit crimes," says Andrews. "But at least the police are picking up on it, and that makes me feel very safe about living here." Patch took a look at …
