Winter Weather Advisory for Golden Valley: 2 to 4 Inches of Snow

The National Weather Service's advisory is from 3 p.m. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday.

Golden Valley is in a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 3 p.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service says snow accumulations could reach 2 to 4 inches, with as much as 5 inches in some areas. Unfortunately, that means the snow will coincide with people traveling to and from Super Bowl parties.  "A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties," according to the NWS. "Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities ... and use caution while driving." Chances for snow will be sporadic this week in Golden Valley, with high temperatures in the low 30s and lows in the single digits. Share Your Snowy Photos on Patch

Are you enjoying the winter weather? Upload your photos and share them with the community.

We know that winter weather brings its fair share of difficulties, but snow also means that it's time for snowmen building, snow angel making and a few snow ball fights. On Sunday, officials from Theodore Wirth Park said that the cross country ski trails were busy. The The “Front-9” will be rolled and packed today, providing more choices for skiers. Theodore Wirth Park also has miles of single track mountain biking trails, which are available for enthusiasts with fire tire bikes. According to a trail conditions forum from Minnesota Off Road Cyclists, conditions are great for fat tire biking. On Sunday afternoon, one forum user called the conditions "unique" and encouraged riders to take to the trails. If you, or people you know, are having…

Hennepin County Sheriff Issues Thin Ice Warning

Hennepin Sheriff Rich Stanek reminds parents and caregivers to keep children away from thin ice.

Editor's Note: The following is a Hennepin County Sheriff's Office press release. Hennepin Sheriff Rich Stanek is reminding parents and caregivers to keep children away from thin ice on partially frozen ponds, lakes, and all bodies of water. Most victims of fatal accidents on the ice in Hennepin County have been children. “When your child is near the ice or the water, you should be near your child,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, “I urge you to provide clear rules about ice safety throughout the winter months.” No ice should ever be considered safe. Small bodies of water such as ponds are especially a hazard now since they are the most likely to have a thin layer of ice.  A dusting of snow or frost may give thin ice the …

Easiest Winter in 81 years

The temperature could hit 50 degrees in the Twin Cities Tuesday, adding to one of the warmest winters in decades.

The bizarre winter weather continues as temperatures climb into the 50s today. Don’t be surprised if the mercury rises to 52 degrees, as the bizarre winter weather continues. “I really thought we were going to be punished for this unusually nice winter,” Donna Prevo said. The Golden Valley native says she can’t remember a winter like this. She’s right. The last time Minnesota had a winter like this was before Prevo was born. According to weather records, this is the “easiest winter” Minnesotans have seen in 81 years. The last winter with similar temperatures and lack of snow was in 1930-1931. In 2001 Minnesota had a slightly warmer winter, but dealt with 66 inches of snow. “I know March can bring a lot of snow, but with such a nice week …

(Poll) What do you think of Golden Valley's First Snow of the Season?

View our photo gallery and let your neighbors know what you think.

We all heard the forecasts last week: we'd get snow on Saturday, but it would most likely be slushy and melt right away. But here we are, a few days later, and those flakes have stuck around. Yes, the snow will likely melt in the next day or two, but before it does, we want to see your photos! Check out some of the pics we took near the Historical Society, City Hall and around town already in the gallery and add your own. We also want to know what you're thinking about the first snow.  So upload a pic and take our poll to get in the holiday spirit.  The holidays do techinically start this week, right?

That's what I meant. I was driving on ice and snow today in Golden Valley and everyone had predicted there would be a messy slush and that it would melt within hours. I realize it will probably melt in the next couple days, Michael. Something tells me you're a smart alec:)   more ›
