How dangerous are winter roads?

Sunday's snowstorm served as a reminder that winter in Minnesota frequently means car crashes. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the foul weather caused 367 crashes, 48 crash-related injuries, 299 spun-out cars, and three jack-knifed tractor-trailers. In some ways, those numbers are yet more proof that winter-weather driving can prove difficult. Updated: Snow, Fog Cause Crashes in Twin Cities Area

Slippery driving conditions caused more than 300 car crashes on Sunday, according to Minnesota State Patrol.

Updated Monday, 12:30 p.m. Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said that between 5 and 10 a.m. on Monday, 27 crashes were reported in the Twin Cities metro area. Of those crashes, 5 resulted in injuries. *** Snow, ice and fog forced drivers to slow down on Sunday and Monday. And even then, the Minnesota State Patrol reported that more than 300 drivers crashed on Jan. 27 between noon and 8:30 p.m. On Twitter, Lt. Eric Roeske said that out of 367 crashes, only 48 involved injuries. At about 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Minnesota Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed a spinout blocking the road on Interstate 394 and Winketka Avenue.
