What Crimes Are Most Prevalent in Your Neighborhood?

Statistics show that violent crime is down in Hennepin County. Tell us what crimes you’re seeing in your community.

According to a recent Hennepin County Sheriff's Office press release, from 2006 and 2012, violent crime in Hennepin County has decreased 37 percent. The FBI says that murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault all make up “violent crime.” The Sheriff’s Office reports that in 2012, the county saw the lowest amount of violent crime in more than two decades. And while violent crimes may be decreasing, Twin Cities residents still see various crimes impact their neighborhoods. In Golden Valley, police recently warned residents about a string of mail thefts. Last January, Minnetonka police alerted homeowners to a rash of burglaries. Business thefts, including an incident that led to a dangerous police chase, have taken place in Eden Prairie. …

Officers at the Golden Valley Police Department responded to reports of fights, vehicle break-ins, and drug activity between Feb. 5 and 10. Feb. 5 Police responded to reports of a man walking around Golden Valley’s ACE Hardware and taking “items off the shelves and placing them in his pockets.” The man, who was described as a Latino male, fled the store with a woman before he could be arrested. Feb. 6 Police received tips that drug activity and possible drug sales was occurring at the 3500 block of Mcnair Drive in Robbinsdale. Police executed a search warrant after “two dirty trash pulls,” and found a “small amount” of marijuana. Feb. 7 A woman’s wallet was stolen from her purse when she was at D'Amico and Sons. Home Burglary, Profanity-Laced Outburst: Golden Valley Police Blotter

A man’s temper flared after a woman wouldn’t sell him her car.

Golden Valley Police responded to the following incidents between Jan. 28 and Feb. 3. Jan. 28 A home on the 5000 block of Olson Memorial Highway was broken into while the residents were away from home. No arrests were made. Jan. 29 A Crystal woman parked her car in Golden Valley’s Byerlys parking lot and returned to find her license plates stolen. Police conducted an exterior site evaluation of a home located on the 1700 block of Gettysburg Court and noted several “violations.” The Golden Valley resident was the “object of 50 police calls in the last year.” Jan. 31 A woman’s car window was broken and purse stolen. Man Reportedly Flees with Faucets from Golden Valley Menards

The Hopkins man allegedly tried to barricade a Menard’s security door with a lumber cart before fleeing.

A Hopkins man is facing one count of aggregated theft, a felony, after allegedly blocking the security office door at the Golden Valley Menards and fleeing the store with a cart full of high-end bathroom merchandise. On Jan. 25 at about 5:30 p.m., Golden Valley police were called to Menards for reports of theft. According to a complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court, a shopper saw another man, later identified as Dana Hitchings, 42, of Hopkins, remove “high-end faucets and bath equipment from the store’s shelves” and place them in his cart. Hitchings then moved his cart near the entrance of the store, Golden Valley police wrote in the complaint, moved a heavy-duty lumber cart in front of the store’s security office, blocking the …
