Community Fights Hunger Through Robbinsdale Empty Bowls Event

Bowl making will take place on Feb. 9 and 23. All bowls will be donated for an Empty Bowls fundraiser in March.

There’s no hiding it. Hunger in Minnesota is a common problem. Reports show that the number of people who go hungry in this state has doubled over the last five years. What’s more shocking? Forty percent of those who go hungry are children. These are the realities that Minnesotans face today, but Plymouth resident Sharon Pleimling has decided to do something about it. By volunteering at Empty Bowls events in February and March, Pleimling hopes to make a difference in the lives of local families. On Feb. 9, community members are invited to make bowls at Robbinsdale Middle School. All bowls made at the event--which begins at 10 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m.--will be sold on March 21 at an Empty Bowls event at Sandberg Learning Center. Proceeds …

Robbinsdale Students Promote Music in the Streets Campaign

In a kick-off event last weekend, Robbinsdale Area Schools students played music in the district's seven cities in order to raise money for a program driven by the Seven Dreams Foundation.

Students from Robbinsdale Area Schools braved the cold last Saturday and took to the streets with their instruments in hand. Students serenaded residents in front of local businesses as part of the Seven Dreams Foundation's Music in the Streets event, an activity to promote the Instruments for Kids campaign. Started by the Seven Dreams Foundation, the Instrument for Kids campaign is a fundraising program for Robbinsdale Area Schools. The goal of campaign is to raise $50,000 and collect 100 donated instruments, all of which go to the district's schools. The money raised will go toward the purchase and repair of instruments for students. At a school board business meeting Monday night, Superintendent Aldo Sicoli praised the Seven Dreams …
