Robbinsdale Armstrong #1,324 in Newsweek's Best High Schools in USA

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked Robbinsdale Armstrong High School as the 1,324th best high school in the country. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the United States, with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Minnetonka's ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate …

Armstrong, Cooper Students Qualify for National Speech and Debate Tournament

Armstrong junior Andrew Urevig and Cooper junior Olivia Heusinkveld both qualified for the 2013 National Debate Tournament in Congressional Debate.

Five is the number of the day, at least so far, for the Robbinsdale Debate team, as that’s the number the team is sending to the National Speech and Debate Tournament after two more students qualified to represent Minnesota in the national tournament. Competing at the 2013 National Qualifying Tournament at Minneapolis Community and Technical College on February 22, Armstrong junior Andrew Urevig and Cooper junior Olivia Heusinkveld both qualified to the 2013 National Debate Tournament in Congressional Debate.  Andrew finished in second place, which qualified him.  Previously, he won the championship at the 2013 Minnesota State Debate Tournament.  Olivia finished the National Qualifying …

Armstrong Basketball Player Leans on Team After Mother’s Death

WCCO reports that Calvin Green’s mother passed away Tuesday after a fight with breast cancer.

At just 31-years-old, Nicole Moore died from breast cancer Tuesday. In an article published on Feb. 27, WCCO reports that Calvin Green, Moore’s son, is leaning on teammates and coaches to help deal with the loss. As a student and basketball player at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, Green told WCCO’s Jamie Yuccas that his mother didn’t miss a single basketball game. On Friday, March 1, Green will be a special guest at the basketball team’s senior night. “He’ll be OK,” Margaret Moczyski, a family friend, told WCCO. “We surround him and we’ll take care of him. Robbinsdale Area Schools Students Win MSHSL Triple A Award

Winners of both of the Minnesota State High School League Region 6AA Triple A awards hail from Robbinsdale Area Schools.

Allison Domingues of Robbinsdale Armstrong High School was selected as the 2012-2013 Girls Triple A winner from Region 6AA.  Ranked first in her class with eleven Advanced Placement classes under her belt, Allison is also a National Merit Semi-Finalist; she has lettered in three sports (Cross country, Nordic ski and track) and is captain of two of them (Cross country and track); additionally, she is highly successful in band, orchestra, and marching band, having been named to All State Band and All State Orchestra.  Allison is also a member of the school’s Link Crew. Hockey Update: Armstrong Falls to Benilde-St. Margaret's

Armstrong athletes took on the number one seed on Thursday.

Updated Friday Robbinsdale Armstrong High School fell to Benilde-St. Margaret's School in the section 6AA quarterfinals in St. Louis Park Thursday. Armstrong hockey players failed to score a goal against the number one seeded team and lost 9-0. Benilde players got off to a good start with two goals in the first period and their momentum continued. The Red Knights scored three goals in the second period and finished with four goals in the fourth period. Armstrong High School Impacted by Power Outage

Power went out for about 40 minutes Wednesday during class.

Students at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School experienced a power outage Wednesday, Feb. 20, and immediately took to Twitter using the #poweroutage tag. One student joked, “The main reason I check twitter in the morning is to check for another AHS.” Another said, “Armstrong: where bringing a flashlight is an everyday occurrence.” Tom Hoen, a spokesperson for Xcel Energy, told Patch that crews had to replace a broken breaker at the sub station yesterday morning. Hoen confirmed that power was out for about 35 minutes, beginning at 8:46 a.m. and ending at 9:21. Armstrong students weren’t the only people digging for flashlights. Local Schools Compete in Nordic Ski Section 6 Championships

The event was held at Wirth Park on Monday, Feb. 4.

It was a busy and successful day for Cooper, Armstrong, Hopkins and Breck high school skiers on Monday. Both Hopkins boys’ and girls’ Nordic ski teams claimed Section 6 championships at Theodore Wirth Park. *** Boys Teams Robbinsdale Armstrong High School boys finished fourth, Breck School finished ninth and Robbinsdale Cooper High School finished tenth. Hopkins senior Harris Dirnberger finished first overall, with a total time of 29:44.6. Teammate, senior Jakob Ellingson, took second with a time of 29:50.8.
