Armstrong Staff Sends Packages to Troops in Afghanistan

Gift cards, candy canes, letters from students and a Robbinsdale Armstrong High School T-shirt were among the goodies that staff packed in boxes and shipped to five National Guard soldiers in Afghanistan.

When Kellie Theisen's son first enlisted in the Navy, and when he was deployed to Iraq in 2008, she was floored by the generosity that strangers offered him. "The first year he came home for Christmas in 2005 after enlisting, he said people voluntarily paid for all his food and drinks in the airport," Theisen, a Plymouth resident, remembered. "Someone at [the airport] even came up to him and handed him a Minnesota Vikings t-shirt." It was the generosity of strangers that drove Theisen, a clerical educational assistant at Armstrong High School, to give back to soldiers this year.
