Share the potholes you know about and see which ones others have found.
Each year the freeze and thaw of winter breaks down roads—and that can break down cars. Since potholes are regular obstacles for drivers on Twin Cities roads, Patch would like your help notifying the community about the worst ones. First, use the tool at the top of the page to share any potholes you know about. Just select the road type and then fill in the details in the remaining fields. When you’re done, use the second tool to search for potholes others have found. Happy driving!

Mission Animal Hospital opened Monday on Shady Oak Road.
Melanie Sharpe has been a veterinarian since 2001 and has spent most of that time working with shelters. She went to Ohio State for veterinary school and then worked at the university’s shelter program upon graduation. Although Sharpe did spend a total four years in private practice, she was most recently a senior veterinarian at the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley. The Deephaven resident, who has a border collie of her own named Zorro, is bringing her skills back to the world of private practice, though. On Monday, she opened Mission Animal Hospital at 4338 Shady Oak Road on the Hopkins-Minnetonka border. Sharpe isn’t starting her own practice on a whim. She doesn’t think there are many options for affordable pet care in the Twin …

The school organized the fundraiser to help the people of Japan.
It was a fierce rivalry on the Hopkins West Junior High basketball court Monday. No, two west metro teams weren’t battling out. Instead, students were trying to topple their teachers. The teachers-versus-student match-up was actually a fundraiser for earthquake victims in Japan. Students could pay to watch the game—or pay a little more to join in themselves. Concessions and wristbands added to the pool of donations. “We really want to provide opportunities for kids to do things for other people as part of our content and our curriculum,” said Kim Campbell, a seventh grade social studies teacher at the school.

The event encourages students to take science, technology, engineering and math classes.
The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce is best known for the work it does promoting local businesses. But Monday found the organization helping schools instead. TwinWest hosted its third-annual STEM Summit at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. The event gave Robbinsdale, St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Wazyzata and Minnetonka students a hands-on look at careers in science, technology, engineering and math—subjects known jointly as “STEM.” The event encouraged students already interested in those fields to take more rigorous courses and those without an interest to give them a shot, said chamber President Bruce Nustad. Eleven exhibitors demonstrated how they use these subjects in their jobs. Students got to splice fiber optic cable, talk about the …
