A little after 1 p.m., Minnesota State Patrol Officer Jeffrey Smith was involved in an accident on Interstate 694 in Anoka County. According to the Minnesota State Patrol accident report, Smith, of Golden Valley, was sitting in the left lane on eastbound Interstate 694 when a driver in the center lane lost control of his car. The car, a Ford pickup truck, spun out and “landed on the hood” of Smith’s car, according to the report. Road conditions were icy at the time of the accident and no injuries reported. Slippery driving conditions caused more than 300 car crashes on Sunday, according to Minnesota State Patrol.
Updated Monday, 12:30 p.m. Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said that between 5 and 10 a.m. on Monday, 27 crashes were reported in the Twin Cities metro area. Of those crashes, 5 resulted in injuries. *** Snow, ice and fog forced drivers to slow down on Sunday and Monday. And even then, the Minnesota State Patrol reported that more than 300 drivers crashed on Jan. 27 between noon and 8:30 p.m. On Twitter, Lt. Eric Roeske said that out of 367 crashes, only 48 involved injuries. Brooklyn Center police say two suspects led officers down Highway 169 before they were arrested near Minnetonka Boulevard.
A police chase Thursday morning began in Brooklyn Center and continued through New Hope and Golden Valley, before ending in Minnetonka. At about 2:40 a.m. Jan. 3, a Brooklyn Center police officer spotted two people driving a stolen car in a parking lot near Shingle Creek Parkway and Freeway Boulevard. When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver accelerated and took police on a 14-mile chase. According to Brooklyn Center Police Department Investigative Commander Tim Gannon, an adult male and adult female drove westbound on Interstate 694 and continued southbound on Highway 169 through New Hope and Golden Valley. The West Metro SWAT Team, in conjunction with the Minnesota State Patrol, will conduct a training exercise Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., in the area of Golden Valley Fire Station #3 (3900 Golden Valley Road) and also areas in Theodore Wirth Park. Police say it's a good example of why more people need to call 911.
Last week, my husband and I were heading west on Minnesota Highway 62, about to head north on Highway 100 when a tan Chevy Suburban crossed two lanes of traffic without using a turn signal to get in front of us and make the exit. We followed the truck and watched as it swerved onto the shoulder and back and forth between lanes. I grabbed my phone and called 911. I told the dispatcher this wasn't an emergency but that it might become one. She had me stay on the phone until a State Patrol trooper could meet up with us and stop the Suburban. The trooper moved in front of us and turned on his lights. We found our exit, shook our heads and were soon talking about something else. About a half-hour later, the trooper called to thank me. He …
