After removal dates, shelters may remain on the ice between midnight and one hour before sunrise only when occupied or attended.
From Minnesota's Department of Natural Resources (DNR): Minnesota’s ice fishing shelter removal dates are approaching, and dark houses, fish houses and portables must be off Lake Minnetonka no later than midnight on March 4. Enforcement action will be taken if shelters are left after the deadlines. Those not removing shelters will be prosecuted. Conservation officers may remove the structure and confiscate or destroy it. It is also unlawful to store or leave a shelter at a public access. Anglers are advised to remove shelters earlier, if ice conditions warrant. From ice fishing to snowshoeing to winter survival, homeschoolers have a variety of educational options Jan. 23-30, 2013 at parks in the Three Rivers Park District.
The following was provided by Three Rivers Park District Homeschool Wonders of Water: Ice, Snow, and Fishing Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 9:30 a.m.- noon, at Fish Lake Regional Park, Maple Grove. As water freezes, the way that ice and snow forms changes Minnesota’s landscape in drastic and important ways. Examine the effects of this process, why it happens, and what plants and animals do to cope. Use molecular models, thermometers, exploded soda cans, and outdoor examples in investigations. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office reminds people the advisory is still in effect.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is reminding people that the Thin Ice Advisory remains in effect for all bodies of water in Hennepin County. Colder temperatures are in the forecast this weekend however recent warm weather has already created areas of unstable ice that will need several days of cold temperatures to improve significantly. Ice thickness is variable due to recent warm weather, freezing, and thawing that has taken place over the past several days. Parents and caregivers are reminded that if your child is near water, you should be near your child. Set clear rules for children concerning activities near or on a frozen body of water.
