Construction for a new apartment building in Golden Valley could possibly begin in 2013. A final plan review of the planned unit development (PUD) for the complex, called the Arcata, received a unanimous Golden Valley Planning Commission recommendation during a Feb. 11 meeting. If the applicant receives the necessary final approvals from the Golden Valley City Council, the building would be constructed near the current Colonnade office building on the Xenia Avenue/Golden Hills Drive intersection. The proposed lot for the Arcata was originally intended for a hotel, according to planning commission documents. There was some confusion among Planning Commission members during their Nov. 26 meeting this week. Will The Tiburon apartment complex be built if the city doesn't create the public infrastructure necessary to sustain it? Commissioners weren't sure of the answer. In October, when City Councilmembers approved preliminary plans for The Tiburon, the council liked the idea of new development, but knew the proposed location on Olson Memorial Highway would need some public improvement, like sidewalks and improved street lighting. At a meeting on Monday, Nov. 26, the Golden Valley Planning Commission moved forward with plans for a new apartment building that would be constructed near Xenia Avenue and Golden Hills Drive. The recommendation of approval for the preliminary planned unit development (PUD) is the first of four approvals needed in order for construction to begin. If constructed, The Colonnade Apartments would be seven stories tall and have 173 apartment units and 199 parking stalls. Trammel Crow Company, the project developer, would begin building in the spring of 2013. Patch readers weigh in on plans for new apartments that could be constructed in Golden Valley.
On Nov. 10, Patch asked readers what they thought about three new apartments that could be constructed in Golden Valley, pending City Council approval. A number of readers commented on the article, and a few shared concerns about the increase in potential rental space. The new apartments include The Tiburon Apartments, Colonnade Apartments, and, most recently, Three.Nine.Four. On Nov. 5, the Golden Valley Planning Commission recommended approval of preliminary plans for a new apartment building that would be constructed at the intersection of Interstate 394 and Highway 100.
Residents who live on Circle Down in Golden Valley attended Monday's Planning Commission meeting in force to listen to presentations and discussions about a proposed new apartment building and senior living facility. In total, eleven residents spoke at a public hearing and ten expressed opposition to the project. According to commission documents, Global One Golden Valley, LLC wants to develop a 308 unit apartment building and a 118 unit senior living facility. Both buildings would be six stories tall and traffic would enter and exit through Circle Down. If the plans are approved, the first phase of construction would begin in the spring. Residents in Golden Valley may see a new apartment building along Olson Memorial Highway in the next year. At their meeting last night, the Golden Valley Planning Commission approved preliminary construction plans for The Tiburon, a 142-unit complex with studio, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments. Developed by Dunbar Development Corporation, The Tiburon would be located on Highway 55 and Golden Valley Road.
