Editor's note: The following is a release from Chris Fields for Congress. Dear Friends, Last night was a very tough night for Republican candidates across the great state of Minnesota. In one night the State House and Senate went from red to blue. Seats that were traditionally “safe” lost in a landslide. This loss is tough for all of us. I came up woefully short in my campaign to unseat Keith Ellison. However, the campaign for freedom never dies. It is because of the tremendous support, and generosity that each of you has given me we will live to fight another day. Our fight is not against Keith Ellison or the Democratic Party, it is a fight for America's future. This is a time to reflect but not retreat from our core values…
How did Golden Valley vote in the general election?
We knew early on in the evening on Nov. 6 that President Barak Obama would declare a victory and extend his role as president for four more years. But unofficial results for some local races didn't solidify until the until the wee hours of the morning. By about midnight, though only 90 percent of the votes were in at that time, we knew that Sherry Tyrrell, Helen Bassett and John Vento would be named to the ISD 281 school board. Rep. Keith Ellison held a steady lead on challenger Chris Fields for the Fifth Congressional District, despite vicious debates leading up to election day. Sen. Ann Rest led the race for State Senate District 45. In total, she beat former Golden Valley Mayor Blaire Tremere by 13,572 votes. Paul Scofield fell to Ron …

The small business owner is running for City Council for the fourth time.

Joanie Clausen’s parents moved her family to Woodlawn Park, Golden Valley’s first housing development, in 1948 when Clausen was just one year old. Besides the farmers, she said she’s one of the original settlers. “When my folks moved out here, it was probably two tire tracks because this was the boondocks,” Clausen said. Clausen’s lived in the area her entire life, attending Robbinsdale schools and teaching physical education at the now-shuttered Golden Valley Middle School for eight years in her 20s.
