Spring Load Restrictions In Effect for Golden Valley Roads

Traffic on all city streets is now limited to a maximum weight of 6 tons per axle.

***Information provided by the City of Golden Valley. This is important information for anyone who is moving, hauling, or planning a construction project. You may have to use smaller trucks or lighter loads. The City may issue a load limit waiver for a single trip with a maximum load of 7 tons per axle. Only one waiver will be issued per project per season. Please submit your waiver application to the Public Works office (7800 Golden Valley Rd) in person at or email it to publicworksdept@goldenvalleymn.gov. Bees in Golden Valley? Recent Request Spurs Council Discussion

At a council/manager meeting Tuesday, March 12, councilmembers discussed the definition of an animal and reviewed Minnesota statutes.

Chickens were not the only topic of discussion Tuesday as Golden Valley City Councilmembers sat down during their council/manager meeting. Related: Environmental Commission Says ‘Yes’ To Chickens in Golden Valley According to council documents, a recent request to allow for beekeeping in Golden Valley forced councilmembers to looked harder at the definition of an animal. Documents show that Councilmember DeDe Scanlon asked to possibly broaden the definition to include reptiles, rodents and amphibians. Councilmember Steve Schmigdall said that urban agriculture needs to be thoroughly reviewed and could include not only the ownership of chickens, but also goats and bees. I hope the council knows how important it is to support beekeepers both urban and rural. I hope they understand that if everyone adopted the opinion above (not in my backyard) there would be nowhere to keep them. Instead may we work toward laws that allow those who know how to keep bees keep them near people that don't mind having these pollinators nearby.   more ›

Nominate Someone for Golden Valley's Hall of Fame

***Information provided by the City of Golden Valley. Golden Valley’s Hall of Fame is intended to honor those who have been affiliated with Golden Valley and have become renown. It recognizes a broad, diverse, and inclusive spectrum of contributions to the community and beyond. The initial induction of selected nominees took place Dec 2, 2011, at Golden Valley's 125th Anniversary commemorative luncheon. Future inductions will take place each May. All Hall of Fame inductees will be listed on a memorial plaque in City Hall. Golden Valley Officials Concerned About Upcoming Bottineau Meeting

In a letter sent to members of the Hennepin County Board and Metropolitan Council, Mayor Shep Harris asked for clarification regarding the purpose of the upcoming Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s community meeting.

On Feb. 27, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will host a public meeting to discuss how plans for the Bottineau Transitway may impact open space near Theodore Wirth Park. Golden Valley Plans to Host Community Blood Drive

The event will take place on March 6.

According to Memorial Blood Center, 1 in 3 people will need blood in their lifetime. Every time you donate blood, you may save up to 3 lives. Because of the need for donated blood, the City of Golden Valley and Memorial Blood Center will sponsor a community blood drive on March 6 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at Golden Valley public safety building. In order to donate blood, various criteria must be met. City of Golden Valley Looks to Become Yellow Ribbon Community

The process will begin at a public kick-off event on March 6 at the Golden Valley VFW.

The City of Golden Valley, along with Crystal, Robbinsdale and New Hope, is entering a process to become a Yellow Ribbon community. At a recent council/manager meeting, Annette Kuyper, director of military outreach for the State of Minnesota, explained the benefits of becoming a Yellow Ribbon city. According to its website, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a comprehensive support network that works to meet the needs of servicemembers, military families and employers across the state of Minnesota. Kuyper explained that through the Yellow Ribbon program, cities pool and synchronize their resources to support veterans in their community. Golden Valley Issues Snow Emergency As Winter Storm Orko Advances

Plowing will begin at midnight on Sunday.

If your car is parked on a public street, it’s time to move it. The City of Golden Valley issued a snow emergency Sunday afternoon as winter storm Orko continued to dump snow throughout portions of Minnesota. Plows will begin clearing streets at midnight on Sunday. No parking is allowed on any street until plowing has been completed. This is the fourth snow emergency that the City has issued this winter. According to the City website, if two or more inches of snow fall, Golden Valley calls an emergency. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning on Saturday, predicting that Golden Valley and Hennepin County could see anywhere between 4 and 8 inches of snow. Parking Alert: Snow Emergency Issued in Golden Valley

Cars need to be moved by 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

After a snowy Monday night, the City of Golden Valley has issued a snow emergency beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5. According to the city, plows will begin work at 7 a.m. and no parking is allowed on any street until plowing has been completed. Weather service forecasters say that there's a 50 percent chance for snow on Tuesday. The next chance for snow is Wednesday.

Residents Get Discounted Timberwolves Tickets on Family Night

The game will be on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2:30 p.m.
