The following was released by Hennepin County: Have you ever wondered how county taxes are assessed and where your tax money goes? Would you like to learn what goes into plowing county roads every winter? The Hennepin County Citizens Academy helps residents better understand the scope of county government by giving attendees the chance to interact face-to-face with county leaders and elected officials, including the commissioners, county administrator, sheriff, county attorney and department directors. Behind-the-scenes tours also give residents the chance to see their county government in action. Applications are being accepted through March 2 for the Citizens Academy, which begins in April.
Citizens Academy will be held from mid-September to the end of October.
Would you like to get a glimpse the inside the county jail or find out how your taxes are assessed? Hennepin County is offering a Citizens Academy from Sept. 14 to Oct. 26. It will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at various places around the county. The group won't meet on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. Registration ends Aug. 4, according to a county news release.
