At the beginning of the century, Golden Valley city officials and General Mills executives wanted to improve the area around Highway 55, Boone Avenue and General Mills Boulevard. The final result was the General Mills Nature Preserve. In addition to being a scenic area for visotirs, the preserve helps to accommodate increased traffic; it protects the intersection from flooding in certain conditions and restores wetlands. The site was officially dedicated on July 11, 2007.
