Golden Valley Human Rights Commission Hosts Sept. 11 Volunteer Event

Looking for a way to give back to the community on an important day of remembrance? Here's your chance!

The Golden Valley’s Human Rights Commission  will host a National Day of Service and Remembrance community event 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Second Harvest Heartland, 6325 Sandburg Road, Suite 1700, in Golden Valley. Everyone (ages 8 and older) is invited to participate.

The event provides participants a chance to help sort and re-pack food from food drives and donations, label cans or re-package bulk food such as pasta, cereal, rice, apples, or potatoes into family size packages. These items go to Second Harvest Heartland’s partner agencies, including local food shelves and soup kitchens that serve people at risk for hunger.

The volunteer shift will start with an orientation explaining Second Harvest Heartland’s mission and how to sort and pack the food. Volunteers must be able to stand for several hours.
