Golden Valley Takes Part in Minnesota's 'Give to the Max Day'

Today is a one-day effort to raise money for local organizations, and we're highlighting 10 right here in Golden Valley that need your help.

The organization, GiveMN, is calling today (Nov. 16) "The Great Minnesota Give-Together," as it works to raise millions of dollars for thousands of nonprofits in a 24-hour time span.

The organization has set up incentives to stretch your dollar and is offering prizes throughout the day for people who give.

If you don't have a favorite local charity, Patch is here to help you out.  Any one of the following Golden Valley organizations are part of "Give to the Max Day," and could benefit from your help.

PRISM (People Responding In Social Ministry)

  • For over 40 years, this social service agency has provided assistance to families who have fallen into a period of financial hardship. A collaboration with Second Harvest Heartland allows PRISM clients to get $5 worth of groceries for only $1.

  • Why Give? For each donated dollar, $.95 goes directly towards client family services such as food shelf visits, school supplies, vehicle repairs, clothing, and budget education. Make a donation to PRISM.


Seven Dreams Foundation

  • works to increase educational skills and experiences in the seven communities of the through innovative hands-on learning opportunities. Recent initiatives have included a rain garden, improving early childhood literacy at home, breaking language barriers, and providing individuals in the Special Education program an opportunity to work.

  • Why Give? Contributions go directly towards helping academic opportunities in local classrooms become a possibility. Make a donation to Seven Dreams.

Animal Humane Society

  • This group has been protecting animals through adoption, educational outreach, pet boarding, training and humane investigations since 1878.

  • Why Give? Donations will be utilized to rescue those, animals and humans alike, in unpleasant situations. Animal adoption can be extremely awarding for both parties. Make a donation to the Animal Humane Society.


Christian Recovery Counseling Center

  • CRC has been providing mental health services within the Golden Valley community since 1993. Currently the Golden Valley non-profit has nine licensed staff available to provide individual and group therapies that focus on a wide variety of mental health issues.



Courage Center

  • This large Minnesota nonprofit has been empowering individuals with disabilities to live independently since 1928. specializes in physical, occupational and vocational rehabilitation services for people of all ages and abilities.

  • Why Give? Donations help expand the services and programs, as well as the number of individuals that the organization can serve. Make a donation to the Courage Center.


Golden Valley Historical Society

  • Golden Valley has benefited from this organization’s efforts to “find, preserve and disseminate” local history since 1974. The society’s programs and events are free and open to the public.
  • Why Give? Help support the expansion of historical educational resources. Make a donation to the Historical Society.


Golden Valley Crime Prevention Fund

  • In collaboration with the Golden Valley Police Department, the Crime Prevention Fund has developed and implemented a variety of programs to increase safety and crime prevention within the community. Highlighted initiatives include safety camps for youth and Senior Citizens, Neighborhood Watch, and Minnesota Night to Unite.
  • Why Give? Contributions will be used to continue working with the GVPD in order to ensure safety for residents. Make a donation to the Crime Prevention Fund.



Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery

  • This organization works to curb child abuse and neglect in the greater Minneapolis area by providing a 24-hour crisis line, parenting education, crisis counseling, and childcare outlet for parents in crisis. The nursery can provide a 1 to 3 day placement for children up to 6 years old.
  • Why Give? Donations will be used to help sponsor a child’s stay in the Crisis Nursery and the crisis counseling for the parents. Make a donation to the Crisis Nursery.


Learning Disabilities Association

  • This agency has been addressing learning disabilities and difficulties for children and adults in Minnesota for over 40 years. LDA partners with several early childhood learning centers and elementary schools in the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Robbinsdale districts.
  • Why Give? Help individuals tackle their learning difficulties through assessment services, tutoring, different learning techniques, and capacity building. Make a donation to Learning Disabilities Association.


Sunshine Valley Preschool and Childcare

  • This non-profit Christian childcare center has been meeting the early childhood needs of local youth since opening up as a preschool in 1967. The facility is currently licensed to serve 30 preschoolers and 10 toddlers.
  • Why Give? Help Sunshine Valley provide quality early educational programs for the community’s children. Make a donation to Sunshine Valley.
