This Week: Public Safety Open House June 19

This week's summer fun event in Golden Valley is the annual Public Safety Open House:

• The open house is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the Police Station and Fire Stations. Come and tour the Golden Valley Police Station and any or all of the three Fire Stations in the city. There is also a chance to win prizes and don't forget to check out the public safety equipment used by the Golden Valley Police and Fire Departments to keep the community safe.

Looking for more fun this month? Here's a few other events happening during June and this summer:

Concerts in the Park
Sponsored by the Park and Recreation Department, come see some free weekly concerts mainly on Mondays in the large picnic shelter of Brookview Park. Concerts are usually an hour to an hour and a half and you are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on and if you like snacks or supper. Here's the 2013 schedule:
• Axis Mundi, June 24
• Rum River Brass, July 8
• The Robbinsdale City Band, Thursday, July 11
• The John Philip Sousa Band, followed by an ice cream social, July 15
• Stompin’ Dixie, July 22

Market in the Valley
Golden Valley's Farmer's Market returns Sundays in June. The market is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting Sunday, June 16, and going to Oct. 6, in the parking lot area under the water tower next to Golden Valley City Hall. Interested in being a vendor or volunteering? Find out more here.

Golden Valley Fire Relief Association Street Dance
The free dance event is 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday, June 22, at Chester Bird American Legion at Hwy 100 and Glenwood Avenue. This year includes family activities, food (including hot dogs, roasted corn on the cob, chips, popcorn, snow cones and pop), a D.J. for kids, live music and fireworks at dusk.
