Twins Catcher Drew Butera Visits Animal Humane Society

Fans gathered at Golden Valley's Animal Humane Society on Wednesday night to meet Twins player Drew Butera .

Free pet ID tags, adoption coupons and information about initiatives were all part of an event at the Golden Valley shelter Wednesday night.

But mostly, people lined up in the adoption area to catch a glimpse of Twins player Drew Butera.

Butera is the first to admit that he's an animal lover. That's why he's been partnering with the Animal Humane Society for the last year. Butera signed autographs and smiled for photos at Wednesday's event in an effort to promote the Law of the Paw--a program aimed to help reduce pet homelessness.

"I'm here to support the Law of the Paw," Butera told Patch. "It's an initiative that will help keep stray dog numbers down and encourage people to adopt, spay and ID their pets."

After fans posed with Butera, they picked up a 25% off coupon good for the adoption of an adult cat. The promotion is good until Sept. 9. Attendees also signed a Law of the Paw pledge and got a dose of pet therapy petting adoptable puppies and kittens.

Jeff Moravec, director of communications for the Animal Humane Society, said that his goal for the event was simply public awareness. "We just want people to know about Law of the Paw," Moravec said.
