Sports Roundup: Girls Tennis Sectionals Wrapping Up
Hopkins girls advance to semifinals, Breck and Armstrong netters eliminated in playoff brackets.
As the calendar moves into mid-October, more and more Golden Valley-area teams are transitioning to a postseason state-of-mind. Girls tennis sectionals are nearing an end as boys and girls soccer squads are just beginning their playoff treks.
Hopkins Girls Tennis
The third-seeded girls tennis team shut out No. 6 seed Minneapolis Southwest on Tuesday to progress into the Section 6AA semifinal round.

Second-seeded Lake Conference rival Wayzata awaits Hopkins for a 9 a.m. semifinal match on Thursday at the Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville. The Trojans defeated the Royals 6-1 in September. The 6AA championship match will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lakeville Lifetime.

The Hopkins volleyball team dropped to 9-13 overall and 0-6 in the Lake with a 3-1 loss to visiting Minnetonka on Tuesday. The Royals finished eighth at the St. Michael-Albertville Tournament last weekend, going 2-3 over Oct. 7-8.
Boys Soccer
Andrew Headrick scored twice as the seventh-seeded Breck boys soccer team defeated No. 10 Delano 5-0 in the opening round of the Section 6A Tournament.
The Mustangs play at No. 2 seed Holy Family Academy on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Breck Girls Soccer
The Breck girls soccer team, seeded 11th in the Section 6A tournet, saw its season come to an end in a 2-1 loss to No. 6 Southwest Christian in Chaska on Tuesday.
Individual statistics were not made available. The Mustangs ended the season at 4-11.
Breck Girls Tennis
The Breck girls tennis team, seeded second in the Section 4A Tournament, was denied a trip to the state tournament after a 6-1 loss to top-seeded Blake in the championship match on Wednesday.
Breck Volleyball
A 3-0 loss to St. Croix Lutheran dropped the Breck volleyball team to 6-8 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.
Cross-Country
The Robbinsdale Cooper cross-country teams ran in the Shakopee Invitational on Tuesday, with the boys finishing eighth and the girls sixth.
Zach Pierson led the boys with a 17th-place time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds over 5,000 meters, while Kaelyn WIlliams (15:51.8) and Ellie Evans (16:10.4) took ninth and tenth, respectively, over 4,000 meters in the girls race.
Cooper Volleyball
The Cooper volleyball team dropped to 5-17 with a 3-0 loss to Totino-Grace on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.
Girls Tennis
The Robbinsdale Armstrong girls tennis team, seeded seventh in the Section 6AA Tournament, lost 7-0 to No. 2 Wayzata and was eliminated from the postseason. Individual statistics were not made available.
Armstrong Volleyball
The Armstrong volleyball team topped Coon Rapids 3-0 on Tuesday to improve to 10-9-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.
