Sports Roundup: Armstrong Sweeps Basketball, Hockey Matchups

Breck girls hockey must settle for second in Tri-Metro after tie at Blake.

There were a number of thrilling contests involving local teams on Thursday.  Most of them were wins, as Robbinsdale Armstrong was perfect on the night in both basketball and hockey while Breck had to make-do with a late tie.

Breck Girls Hockey: Mustangs 4, Blake 4

The Breck girls hockey team could not quite carve out a share of the Tri-Metro Conference title, tying Blake 4-4 to settle for a solid second-place standing in the circuit.

Milica McMillen scored twice for the Mustangs, with teammates Karina Marette and Caroline Griffith netting one goal apiece as Taylor Niesen made 31 saves in the Breck net.

The deadlocked result gave Breck a 7-1-1 conference record and Blake an 8-0-2 circuit mark.

While Blake's Tri-Metro season has concluded, Breck has one more Tri-Metro matchup remaining against the Minneapolis Novas. A win would put the Mustangs, currently 12-10-1 overall, one-half game behind the Bears in the final conference standings.

Armstrong Boys Basketball: Falcons 79, Andover 76 (OT)

The Robbinsdale Armstrong boys basketball team improved to 1-1 in overtime games this season after topping visiting Andover, 79-76 in the extra session.

Behind 39 points from Marquel Curtis, the Falcons rallied from a 39-33 halftime deficit for the win as K.J. Bluford and Levi Abercrombie chipped in 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Armstrong, now 15-3 overall and 10-3 in the Northwest Suburban Conference, travels to Robbinsdale Cooper for a 1 p.m. tip-off Saturday afternoon.

Armstrong Boys Hockey: Falcons 4, Andover 3

The Robbinsdale Armstrong boys hockey team improved to 12-7 overall and 8-6 in the Northwest Suburban with a 4-3 home win versus Andover.

Luke Seaburg scored twice for the Falcons, with Ches Messarano and Matt Ripka tallying one goal apiece; Michael Greenberg made 24 saves in-between the pipes for Armstrong.

The Falcons travel to Osseo at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Breck Boys Hockey: Mustangs 8, St. Paul Johnson 4

An 8-4 win at St. Paul Johnson in a non-conference matchup upped the Breck boys hockey team's overall record to 12-7 on the season.

Conor Andrle scored three goals for the Mustangs, with Grant Opperman, Thomas Lindstrom, Ben Tegtmeyer, Matt Colford and Wesley Iverson each netting one tally apiece; Max McCormick made 23 saves in goal.

Breck travels to Rochester Lourdes for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday afternoon.

Armstrong Girls Basketball: Falcons 46, Andover 39

The Robbinsdale Armstrong girls basketball team won, 46-39, at Andover to improve to 8-13 overall and 4-11 in the NWSC.

Kari Fossum led the Falcons with 10 points in the victory as her team now prepares to host Park Center at 7 p.m. next Tuesday.

Cooper Girls Hockey: Chisago Lakes 6, Hawks 0

An 8-0 loss to Chisago Lakes dropped the Cooper girls hockey team to 8-16 on the season and 2-10 in the North Suburban Conference.

The Hawks close out the regular season at 7 p.m. Saturday night versus St. Francis at East Bethel Ice Arena.

Hopkins Boys Hockey: Wayzata 7, Royals 2

The Hopkins boys hockey team fell to 10-10 overall and 0-4 in the Lake Conference with a 7-2 loss at Wayzata.

Kyle Dalton and Tanner Holmquist scored in the Royals' losing cause, with Ryan Hazuka making 26 saves in the defeat.

Hopkins hosts Minnetonka at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Cooper Wrestling: Hawks 53, Spring Lake Park 18

The Robbinsdale Cooper wrestling team defeated Spring Lake Park by a score of 53-18. Individual results were not available.

Hopkins Wrestling: Eden Prairie 36, Royals 22

The Hopkins wrestling team was beaten, 36-22, by Eden Prairie. Individual results were not available.
