Local Squads Compete In Postseason

Several Golden Valley-area teams have spring campaigns come to an end in sectional playoffs.

It was a rough stretch for most local teams last week as several Golden Valley-area squads saw their spring seasons come to a close with sectional playoff losses.

Hopkins Baseball: Royals Win Sectional Opener

The Hopkins baseball team, seeded fourth in the Section 6AAA Tournament, surged into the third round with an 8-5 defeat of Lake Conference rival Wayzata on Saturday.

Individual statistics from the game were not made available. The Royals improved to 11-10 with the win and now play the section's top seed, Robbinsdale Armstrong, in the first round of double-elimination play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville.

A 15-0 loss at Eden Prairie in the quarterfinals of the Section 6 playoffs ended the Hopkins boys lacrosse team's season with a 4-10 record.

Derek Brueske was the Royals' top goal scorer this spring with 25 tallies, followed by Ryan Hazuke with 19 goals and Griffith Woodyard with 15 goals.

The Hopkins girls lacrosse team saw its spring come to an end with a 2-10 record after a 16-7 loss at Champlin Park in its Section 6 opener last Tuesday.

Breck Boys Tennis: Mustangs Win Section 5A Title

After not giving up a single match in Section 5A play, the Breck boys tennis team punched its ticket to state with a 7-0 defeat of Becker in the championship round last Wednesday at the University of Minnesota Baseline Center. 

Individual statistics from the tournament were not made available. The Mustangs also topped Columbia Heights and Fridley by scores of 7-0 in preliminary-round matchups.

Breck Softball: Mustangs Shutout In Sectional Opener

A 10-0 loss at Concordia Academy-Roseville in the Section 4AA Tournament opener concluded the Breck softball team's spring last Wednesday.

Individual statistics from the game were not made available. The Mustangs finished the season with a 3-7 record.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys Lacrosse: Red Knights Survive, Advance

The Benilde-St. Margaret's boys lacrosse team, undefeated, No. 1-ranked and top-seeded, advanced to the Section 5 semifinals by topping Minneapolis, 18-5, in quarterfinal play last Friday.

BSM easily improved to 14-0 this season as Christian Rekow led the way on the scoresheet with five goals in the victory, followed by Will Hoesley's four goals and three tallies from Christian Horn.

The Red Knights host Holy Angels on Tuesday at 7 p.m., with the victor advancing to the sectional finals at 5 p.m. Thursday evening at Bloomington Kennedy High School.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Baseball: Red Knights Ousted By Kennedy

Bloomington Kennedy blitzed the Benilde-St. Margaret's baseball team in its Section 6AAA playoff opener and eliminated the Red Knights from the postseason by a score of 14-4 in five innings last Friday.

The Eagles were the beneficiary of five BSM errors and scored in each inning except the third, while the host Red Knights mustered up lone runs in the first and second and two more in the fourth en route to the stunning defeat.

Spencer Shaver led BSM offensively with a 2-for-2 day at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring once himself. Starting pitcher Jimmy Heck took the loss for the Red Knights, who finished the season with a 14-6 record.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Girls Lacrosse: Red Knights Eliminated By Blake

The ninth-seeded Benilde-St. Margaret's girls lacrosse team was booted from the Section 5 playoffs in a 17-5 loss at No. 1 seeded Blake last Friday.

Individual statistics from the game were not made available. Maddy Moore led the Red Knights with 21 regular-season goals, with Sara Taffe scoring 19 goals and Paige Lawlor 17 goals for 7-8-1 BSM.

Robbinsdale Cooper Baseball: Hawks Eliminated In Playoff Opener

The second-seeded Robbinsdale Cooper baseball team was stunned by No. 7 seed Irondale, 5-2, in its Section 5AAA Tournament opener on Saturday, a loss that booted the Hawks from the postseason.

Individual statistics from the game were not made available. Cooper ended the season with a 16-3 record. Irondale entered the tournament with a 9-10 mark.

A 10-1 loss to Wayzata last Tuesday in the second round of the Section 6AAA Softball Tournament in Richfield concluded the spring season for Robbinsdale Cooper.

The Robbinsdale Cooper boys lacrosse team was expelled from the Section 6 playoffs by means of a 21-3 loss to Wayzata in the opening round last Tuesday.

Julien Chamleusouk, Thomas Evans and JJ Cruikshank scored the Hawks' lone three goals in the defeat that ended the team's season with a 4-9 record.

Robbinsdale Cooper Girls Lacrosse: Hawks Bow Out In First Round Of Playoffs

Maple Grove ended the Robbinsdale Cooper girls lacrosse team's season in the first round of Section 6 play on May 23 with a 13-9 loss.

Lucienne Nagel, Brigetta Ottoson and Alex Su each scored three goals apiece for the Hawks in the defeat that concluded the team's season with a 2-12 mark.

Robbinsdale Armstrong Baseball: Top-Seeded Falcons Eke By In Opener

The top-seeded Robbinsdale Armstrong baseball team put down a stern challenge from No. 9 seed Holy Angels to win its Section 6AAA opener, 5-4, on Saturday.
