(Gallery) Breck Girls Compete at State Track Meet

Several girls from the Breck track team participated in the State track meet Friday afternoon at Hamline University.

The girls track and field team finished third at the Class A state meet on Friday and Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul.

The Mustangs finished with 45 team points, which left them behind St. Peter and Bagley/Fosston, who tied for the state championship with 53 team points.

The Breck 4x200 meter relay team took first place at state. Kristina Howard, Halle Gustafson, Malayha George and Malayshia George finished the race in 1:44.20.

Malayshia George repeated as the 400 meter dash champion. She won the 2011 race in 56.22 seconds, which was 0.73 seconds faster than her 2010 championship.

The 4x400 meter relay team also took first place. Howard, Gustafson, Malayha George and Malayshia George finished the race in 3:57.70.

Freshman Niara Hill took seventh place in the girls triple jump. Her best leap was 35 feet, 4.75 inches.
