Cooper’s Rashad Vaughn to Leave for Prep School

Vaughn's father said it would allow him to play basketball at a higher level.

Robbinsdale Cooper standout Rashad Vaughn won’t be returning to the Hawks next year, Vaughn’s father e-mailed 1500ESPN.com.

According to the site, Troy Vaughn wrote:

“At this time the Vaughn Family has decided for Rashad not to return to Cooper High School for his Senior year. This decision was actually made last year when we felt to get the best out of Rashad, we might need to consider a Prep school. We also think that would be good far as academics and to play basketball at a higher level on a daily basis."

Rashad is ranked 11th nationally in class of 2014 on the ESPN 100. He has a scouting grade of 95—sixth in the region and second in the state.

Vaughn's mentor, Pete Kaffey, told the Pioneer Press on Monday that Vaughn will choose in the next couple weeks among four prep schools—including Huntington Prep in West Virginia and Findlay Prep in Las Vegas.

Cooper finished the season with a 20-5 record and a 16-0 record in the North Suburban conference. It went into the Section 5AAAA tournament seeded 5th and lost to Park Center in the semifinals.
