Chester Bird Legion Ends Gopher Classic Run

The American Legion baseball team finished the Gopher Classic with a 2-3 record.

The Chester Bird American Legion baseball team finished up play in the Gopher Classic on Sunday at Benilde-St. Margaret’s in St. Louis Park.

Chester Bird ended the tournament with a 2-3 record, thanks to a 12-9 win over the Rochester Redhawks on Sunday evening. Sioux Falls East, S.D., won the pool with a perfect 5-0 record and advanced to Monday’s round of 16. Sioux Falls East will face Centennial at Edina’s Braemar Park.

Chester Bird opened up play on Friday with a pair of losses, falling to Alexandria 13-4 and East Ridge 7-5.

On Saturday, the squad rebounded with a 1-0 win over West Warwick, RI, before losing to Sioux Falls East 15-0 in five innings on Saturday evening.

Alexandria took second place in the pool with a 3-2 record, but didn't advance to the field of 16.
