Chester Bird 2-1 In American Legion Wood Bat Tournament
Golden Valley American Legion team beats South St. Paul and Hamline before losing to West St. Paul in the Moose Country Challenge tournament.
It's been a good weekend so far for Golden Valley's American Legion baseball team Post 523 Chester Bird.
Chester Bird went 2-1 in the Moose Country Challenge American Legion Baseball Tournament Friday and Saturday, edging South St. Paul 2-1 on Friday, then beating Hamline Purple 8-7 Saturday before being edged by host West St. Paul 3-2 Saturday at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights.
Chester Bird led West St. Paul 1-0 through four innings before the hosts rallied to take the lead in the fifth inning.

Chester Bird will play Rosemount in the consolation bracket Sunday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Academy. The winner of that game advances to the consolation final Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
In the championship bracket, West St. Paul will meet Rosetown in the 10 a.m. game, followed by Stillwater vs. South St. Paul, both games at Henry Sibley High School. The winner of those two games will meet for the eight-team tournament championship at Henry Sibley at about 2:30 p.m.

In Friday pool games, Chester Bird defeated South St. Paul 1-0, West St. Paul dropped Hamline Purple 3-1, Rosetown topped St. Paul Park 3-1 and Stillwater edged Rosemount 2-1.
In Saturday's American Pool games at Henry Sibley High School, Rosetown beat Rosemount 6-3, St. Paul Park edged Rosemount 1-0, Stillwater blasted St. Paul Park 12-3 and Stillwater edged Rosetown 2-1 in 10 innings.
In the National Pool games Saturday at St. Thomas Academy, Hamline Purple edged Chester Bird 8-7, West St. Paul tipped Chester Bird 3-2, South St. Paul topped Hamline Purple 5-4 and West St. Paul bombed South St. Paul 11-2.
