Breck Still Alive In State Tennis Singles, Doubles Tourneys

The Mustangs have two singles players and a doubles team still vying for the Class A state championships

The Breck boys tennis team still has two individuals and one doubles squad still alive chasing Class A state championships after Thursday’s competition at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Doubles duo Joey Gamer and Tucker Sjoblad are set to play in Friday’s Class A semifinals at 8 a.m., while Daniel Carpenter and Myles Tang will each play in separate semifinals in singles play at 8 a.m. Friday.

Carpenter opened up play against Thief River Falls’ Logan Engelstad, winning 6-0, 6-1. He then defeated Blake School’s Charlie Adams 6-1, 6-4, and will face St. Paul Academy and Summit’s John Hill in the state semifinals.

Tang beat Benson’s Ethan Ratliff-Crain 6-0, 6-0 in the first round, then topped La Qui Parle Valley’s Jack Hansen in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-1. He will face Rochester Lourdes’ Robert Turlington in the semifinals.

Gamer and Sjoblad opened up play on Thursday with a 6-3, 6-4 win over St. Peter’s Spencer Gault and Sam Peterson in the first round. They followed it up with a win over Blake School’s Charlie Velie and George Humphrey.

The duo will face St. Paul Academy and Summit’s Max Hommeyer and Birk Mitau in the semifinals.

Breck’s Felix Mettke and Trotter Oberrender lost in the first round to Blake School’s Ford Traff and Kai Skallerud. They rebounded with a win over Redwood Valley’s Jared Arentson and Pat Raddatz in the consolation quarterfinals, and they’ll face Mound Westonka’s William Griffith and Wells Brose at 8 a.m. in the consolation semifinal.
