Update: Golden Valley Skier Returns From Italy

Lauren Samuels, Golden Valley native and former Hopkins High School student, raced well in Italy and is now looking ahead to U.S. Nationals.

Golden Valley teenager Lauren Samuels is back from a whirlwind trip to Italy where she took part in the World Junior Alpine Championships.

The former Hopkins High School student, finished 25th in the Super G race out of 70 and finished 40th in the Giant Slalom out of 111.

“It was a great experience,” Samuels said. “I wish I would have done a little better, but it was definitely a cool experience.”

Samuels was able to do a little sightseeing on the trip, checking out several hot spots in Rome.

"On the last day I was able to walk around Rome," she said. "I'd really like to go back some day."

The ambitious teen is already back on the road with her team. She is now in Quebec competing in another event and is training for the U.S. Nationals coming up in Colorado.
