Three Seats Open on Robbinsdale School Board

Three seats on the school board of Robbinsdale Area Schools will be open in January of 2013. Elections to serve a four-year term on the board will take place on November 6. In order to be eligible to be elected to a Minnesota school board, one must be: at least  21 years old; a resident of the district for at least 30 days prior to the election and be an eligible voter. Each candidate must file an affidavit of candidacy with the school district clerk; the filing fee is $2.00. Filings begin on July 31, 2012 and will continue through August 14, 2012; the last date to withdraw is August 16, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.

The decision to become a candidate for a school board seat is one of the most important decisions that a citizen can make. Together with other members of the board, your decisions will affect the future of our students, communities, and society.

An information session for those interested in running for school board will be held on Wednesday, June 20, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the boardroom at the Education Service Center, 4148 Winnetka Avenue North, New Hope. Topics will include: Overview of the District; What Do School Board Members Do?; School Board Roles and Responsibilities; What is the Everyday Impact of Being a School Board Member and How Do I Run for School Board?
