Perpich Center May Take Over Embattled Woodbury School

Perpich could operate the school through 2014.

Golden Valley's Perpich Center for Arts Education could soon become the manager of an embattled Woodbury school, according to the Pioneer Press.

Crosswinds Arts and Science School, operated by the East Metro Integration District, was originally supposed to close after its parent district deemed it too expensive to operate. EMID's Harambee Community Cultures/Environmental Science School in Maplewood was also supposed to close as part of the same decision.

The west metro's FAIR integration schools in Crystal and downtown Minneapolis have also been under threat in recent years as the school districts that make up the West Metro Education Program integration district tussle over how state integration funds ought to be used.

An operating agreement would transfer Crosswinds to Perpich's control until the end of the next school year, giving the state time to find a new operator. The agreement must first be approved by the state and by the Perpich board.
