Noble Elementary Teacher Recognized

An elementary school teacher is recognized for her outstanding work.

Carrie Casey, fifth grade teacher at Noble Elementary School in Golden Valley, has been named the 2011-2012 Junior Achievement Elementary Teacher of the Year for the Upper Midwest.

This long-standing program recognizes teachers who go above and beyond the typical expectation in educational partnerships, and the partnership with Junior Achievement and Robbinsdale Area Schools continues to strengthen, expanding in the 2011-2012 school year. “Carrie not only works with her school and educational team at Noble to create an outstanding experience for Robbinsdale [Area Schools] students,” stated Lachelle Williams, Vice President of Education and Program at Junior Achievement, “but she was instrumental with our STEM learning and enhancement development. She was actually our educational representative with our STEM Board Task Force.”

STEM, short for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, has been of particular focus for the Robbinsdale Area Schools during the past several years, and continues to grow. Staff at Noble Elementary helped lead the way, with all its grades 3-5 teachers completing extensive training in the STEM. In 2011-2012, four more schools in the Robbinsdale Area School district (Neill, Northport, Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion and Zachary Lane) completed the same extensive training. Both middle schools have Gateway to Technology, the middle level leg of Project Lead the Way, the national pre-engineering program. Armstrong High School has Project Lead the Way firmly established in its curriculum; Cooper High School will begin Project Lead the Way beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. Finally, the School of Engineering and Arts (SEA) at Olson Elementary in Golden Valley, a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) magnet school, will open this fall.
