Local Students Win Bus Safety Poster Contest

Second graders created posters around the theme 'I see the driver. The driver sees me.'

Students in the Robbinsdale Area Schools were given a fun opportunity to be encouraged and to encourage others to think about bus safety, and several stepped up to the plate.

The winners of the 2011 School Bus Safety Poster Contest, sponsored by the Minnesota Association for Pupil Transportation and the Minnesota Association of School Bus Operators, created posters with the theme “I See the Driver – The Driver Sees Me!”

This theme was created to remind students about the need to look for the driver’s signal before crossing the street. The students created original drawings which depicted the proper bus safety behaviors in a positive and proactive way.

This year, Hmong Moua, a second grader from Northport Elementary School, took first place in the state for her division. She received a certificate of recognition and a gift card to Borders Books.

There were several honorable mentions as well, all second graders.

They are: From Zachary Lane Elementary: Chloe Millard and Lauren Alexis Laurent; From Northport Elementary: Thiann Lee, Rosa Del GadoSoto, Roman Gibbons, Gormah Kpangbai, Jonathan Malgar-Gaugert, Perla Reyes, Mauircio Quintana, Jeralle Wright, Abel Bediye, and Bobby Clark earned honorable mentions.

All winners received a State Patrol lanyard donated by the Department of Public Safety.
