Earliest Open in Brookview Golf Course History

Hundreds of people are breaking out their golf clubs a little early this year as golf courses across the metro open.

in Golden Valley opened on March 14, the earliest opening date in the history of the course. is set to open Tuesday.

"We had to look back at our records and see if we had ever come close to opening this early," Brookview Golf Operations Manager Ben Disch said. "We were able to open on St. Patrick's Day two years ago, but opening on March 14th broke the record."

On Friday afternoon more than 200 people came through course, all itching to swing. (Check out our photo gallery of eager golfers above.)

"You don't see this kind of weather in March in Minnesota," Golfer Jason Mord said who came into the clubhouse with sunburn after golfing 18 holes.

"My buddy and I checked the website to see if the course was open and when we saw that is was ready to go, we jumped in the car," he said.

Disch says the average opening day for Brookview is April 15. "We have a full month head start on the season and that is a phenomenal way to start the year," he said.

Of course, the early start meant some extra hustle for the maintenance crews and since many students are still in school, Disch is filling work schedules as best he can.

"Right now I have my assistant manager running the grill," he said with a chuckle. "We're a little short staffed, but honestly, it's a good problem to have. We're open and ready for golfers."
