All 'Creative Play' Makes Jack a Smart Boy

The Robbinsdale Area Schools' Creative Play Preschool's approach to learning is paying off.

Creative Play Preschool’s approach to learning is paying off. On the fall assessment taken by this year’s kindergarten students, those who had attended at least one year of Creative Play Preschool scored at or above the norm in five areas – upper case and lower case letters, counting objects, rote counting and identifying shapes.

In some areas of assessment, the percentages were significant – anywhere between 7 to 12 percentage points above the average.

“We want to shout this information from the rooftops,” says Sally Ginn, Early Education Program Director. “Our program pays off for kids.”

Parents say they are pleased, too. In the recent spring parent evaluation surveys, 98% of families were glad they chose Creative Play and listed reasons ranging from “The teacher sneaks learning
into almost everything” to “I am extremely impressed with the quality of education” to “It has prepared my kids for K-5…5 stars!”

“Although we are called ‘Creative Play’, we are so much more than play,” says Ginn.

Curriculum used in Creative Play Preschool aligns with the district curriculum in math, for instance, and this alignment leads to great success for students. Classes go on quality educational field trips, such as trips to Orchestra Hall, The Bell Museum of Natural History, and the Como Zoo; and teachers, all of whom are licensed, and assistants participate in relevant and rigorous staff development.

Program goals are to provide a foundation for future success in school
through directed play and strong educational foundations. With programming such as this, kindergarten readiness isn’t just a term – it’s a reality.

Creative Play serves children ages 3-5 years old. Classes are morning
and afternoons two to three times a week. Reduced tuition is available on a limited basis to families who qualify. Register at 763-504-5330 or online.
