Robbinsdale Area Schools Students Sweep State Conference Events

The fifteen-member team of Minnesota Alternative Program (MAAP) Stars from Highview Alternative Program in the Robbinsdale Area Schools won a record number of events at the recent Minnesota State Conference held in Bloomington.  This two-day conference gives students the opportunity to showcase their skills in the Minnesota state standards, along with artistic, career and life skills.  Over 300 students from alternative learning centers (ALCs) across the state competed in the events.  The events in different categories are judged by business leaders.  

Highview award winners were:

• Lifesmarts:  1st place team: - Dylan Loye, Michael Nyaundi, Quincy Palmore, and Michael Withington
• Public Speaking:  1sts place – Michael Nyaundi; 4th place – Nicole Hackett; 6th place – Alice Tombers-Sams; 7th place – Jamyrah Childress
• Human Relations Decision Making:  3rd place – Michael Nyaundi
• Employment Interviews:  1st place – Carlos Washington
• Parenting Decision Making:  2nd place team: - Terry Wilson, Nicole Hackett, Dylan Loye; 3rd place team – Quincy Palmore, Michael Withington, Kahalaya Bilbro
• Team Management Decision Making:  1st place team – Sarah Carlson, Michael Nyaundi, Quincy Palmore; 2nd place team – Khalaya Bilbro, Carlos Washington, Terry Wilson, Sophie Willis
