One for mayor and one for councilman—for the third time

Tuesday was the first day to file for the Nov. 8 election.

One person has filed to run for mayor of Golden Valley, and a city councilman wants a third term.

Mayoral candidate

Shep Harris, who lives in the Bassett Creek area, filed Tuesday to run for mayor. That was the first day of the filing period for the Nov. 8 election. The deadline for filing is 5 p.m. Aug. 16.

Harris is a senior government relations specialist at the Minneapolis law firm of Fredrikson & Byron. He is a New Orleans native and moved to Golden Valley after he married his wife, Beckie, in 1999.

They have three children, Avital, 9; Solomon, 7; and Abraham, 4.

 

Freiberg wants a third term

Golden Valley City Councilman Mike Freiberg, who lives on Olympia Street, has filed for re-election.

He was elected to the council in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. He has lived in Golden Valley since he was 6 weeks old. He is an attorney for the Public Health Law Center. His wife is named Lauren and they have a daughter, Rose.
