At a Jan. 2 Golden Valley City Council meeting, new Councilmember Steve Schmidgall was officially sworn into office.
Councilmembers appointed Schmidgall when former Councilmember Mike Freiberg resigned to serve as State Representative for District 45B.
According to a statement on the City of Golden Valley's website, Schmidgall was first appointed to the City’s Planning Commission in 2005. He's also been involved with Robbinsdale Area Schools in various capacities, including heading up the Financial Advisory Council.
“I have found service on the Planning Commission to be very gratifying,” wrote Schmidgall in his application. “I want to ensure thoughtful, practical progress in the City of Golden Valley, both in planning and in other areas of City government.”
The City started receiving applications for the vacant seat in November and interviewed five candidates.
