Update: Council To Establish New Bottineau LRT Planning Advisory Committee

Many residents have expressed interest in being on the new Committee that could be established this week.

The city of Golden Valley has received plenty of interest from residents to join the Bottineau Light Rail Transit (LRT) Planning Advisory Committee.

The Committee will guide the city’s participation in Hennepin County’s Station Area Planning Process, which will involve study and recommendations for future land use near LRT station locations, physical station design elements and vehicle, transit, bicycle and pedestrian connections to proposed stations.

The Golden Valley City Council could approve establishing the Committee at its Wednesday, Aug. 7, meeting in City Hall. Appointments to the Committee could then be made by early September, as city staff recommends, so the group could begin meeting around that time.

The Bottineau LRT Planning Advisory Committee will be comprised of City Council members, City Commissioners, two local business representatives, and two Golden Valley residents who live in proximity to the Bottineau LRT facility (east of Hwy 100 and north of Hwy 55).

Background
Earlier this year, the Metropolitan Council amended the metro region’s Transportation Plan to include the Bottineau LRT. The Bottineau LRT (also known as the continuation of the “Blue Line”), will be an extension of the current Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT) into the northwest suburbs. The line will travel out of downtown Minneapolis, through Golden Valley along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Corridor, then into Robbinsdale, Crystal, and Brooklyn Park, where it will end north of Hwy 610.
