City Council approved the change as part of a larger remodeling project, which will include a more modern look.

Customers will be able to line up side by side and order at the McDonald's on Medicine Lake Road

The drive aisles need to be increased to 20 feet for better fire access, which will decrease the number of parking places to 78, according to information from the city.

"A bicycle rack with space for at least five bicycles shall be installed and shall be secured to either the ground or building," according to the City Council packet.

Across the U.S., McDonald's is rebranding its restaurants, according to the city. The local McDonald's will be redesigned to look more modern and the interior will be updated.

The restaurant's owner told city officials that drive-through sales account for about 64 percent of total sales, which is a 19 percent increase from when it was built in the late 1990s.

In July, City Planner Joe Hogeboom said he expects the owners will begin construction right away.
