Mayor, City Council Positions Up For Election

Upcoming candidate filing period is for the Nov. 8 ballot.

This year, the seats held by Mayor Linda Loomis and City Councilmembers Mike Freiberg and Bob Shaffer are up for election.

Tuesday through Aug. 16 is the filing period for the Nov. 8 ballot.

The council positions are at-large, which means they represent the entire city. All three positions have four-year terms and are non-partisan.

If you are interested in filing for office, you must:

  • Live in Golden Valley and have lived there for at least 30 days prior to election day.
  • Be a qualified voter in the city.
  • Be at least 21 by the time you would take office.
  • Not file for any other office in the election.
  • File a personal financial disclosure within 14 days of becoming a candidate.
  • Provide information the city requests, which will be provided to the public.

Elected candidates will take office in January.

You can file in the Golden Valley General Services Department, on the second floor of , 7800 Golden Valley Road. You must pay $5 to file.
