Golden Valley Council To Look at Forming a 'Bottineau LRT Planning Advisory Committee'

The proposed committee would include community member, city committee members, council members, city staff and Hennepin County staff member.

In an effort to guide Golden Valley's participation in station area planning for two potential Bottineau Light Rail Transit station locations, the Golden Valley City Council may consider putting together a community-type committee.

The formation of a proposed "Bottineau LRT Planning Advisory Committee" is up for discussion at a city manager/council meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, in the council conference room in City Hall. Nothing would be officially approved at this meeting.

The proposed Committee could possibly include: residents appointed by the Council; members from the city's planning, environmental and open space and recreation commissions; one to five city council member(s); city staff and a Hennepin County staff member. The Commitee's planning work would be done during the next year and if the Council approves creation of the Committee at its Tuesday, Aug. 7, meeting, work could begin in the immediate future.

City staff would not have voting ability on the Committee, but be there in an technical advisory capacity.

The proposed Committee would help refine goals and objectives for planning the station area planning for the station sites in Golden Valley only. The group would recommend planning activities.

The station areas are anticipated for Golden Valley Road and Plymouth Avenue and planning for them are a joint partnership between the city of of Golden Valley and Minneapolis and Hennepin County.

The group must consider the following: conceptual plans for the stations; parking considerations; trail, bicycle and pedestrian access; bicycle storage; lighting; pick up/drop off accommodations. It must also look at connections from station to station; long term land uses in areas surrounding the stations; transit and pedestrian connections to stations and possible adjustments to the city's planning and zoning requirements.
