Golden Valley Could Decrease Park Mowing

The city thinks less-frequent mowing in three parks could decrease costs and improve plant diversity.

Residents may soon see longer grass in three of Golden Valley’s Parks.

The city has suggested mowing less frequently “in a few small areas” in Glenview Terrace, Scheid and Wesley parks.

  • Decrease maintenance costs,
  • Reallocate resources and
  • Improve plant diversity in the parks.

The areas were chosen based on “mowing challenges (steep slopes, erosion, equipment repair), recreational usage, and visibility.” If the proposal goes through, crews would mow the areas three or four time a year during the 2013 growing season instead of the once a week that they’re mowed now.

The public will have a chance to learn about the plan and comment during an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 4 at City Hall.
