Updated: Fourteen File For Three Open Golden Valley City Council Seats

Residents will have plenty of candidates to choose from for this year's Golden Valley City Council elections.

As of the Aug. 13 filing deadline, 14 people have filed for the three available council seats.

Those who have filed for the two four-year term seats currently held by DeDe Scanlon and Paula Pentel include: Sheri Hixon, Greg Keivit, Gillian Uecker Rosenquist, Larry Fonnest, Andy Snope, Bob Hernz, Chris Miller, Jacquelyn Smith, David Weeks-Wynne, Paul Scofield and Simon Gottlieb have filed for the two four-year term seats. Scanlon and Pentel have both decided not run for re-election this year.

Andrew D. Wold, Steven Schmidgall and John Giese have filed for the special election two-year term seat. Currently Schmidgall is the representative for the two-year term seat as he was appointed to the vacant seat in early 2013.

The two four-year term council seats would be from Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2017 and special election, two-year term would go from Nov. 6, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2015.

The withdrawal deadline is by 5 pm. Thursday, Aug. 15. Patch will update this story to let you know if any candidates withdraw by the deadline.
