District Looking For Official Trail Support

The city council will also consider further study of as corporate campus.

The Three Rivers Park District is looking for formal support from Golden Valley’s city council for development of the Bassett Creek Regional Trail.

At Tuesday’s meeting of the city council, at 7 p.m., district officials will ask council members for a letter to attach to their application for a federal Transportation Enhancement Grant.

The trail, still in the master planning phase, will connect the district’s regional trail system with the Minneapolis Grand Rounds system. With Theodore Wirth Park at one end and French Regional Park in Plymouth at the other, the paved multi-use trail will cover 6.6 miles through Golden Valley, Crystal, New Hope, Crystal and Plymouth. Park officials see the connection as a convenient route to parks, businesses, schools, and community gathering places.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, council members will assess the city’s study of a yearlong moratorium on development at Trunk Highway 55 and Douglas Drive. The moratorium, which ended this month, was designed to allow city staff time to study a corporate campus on the International Expressway Park property.

City planners are asking council members to extend the moratorium for another year for further study and analysis.
