City Council OK's Domestic Chickens

One council member objected to what she called "vague" wording in the new ordinance.

Despite colleagues' objections that the ordinance was "vague," the Golden Valley City Council last month legalized the keeping of domestic chickens in the city, according to the Sun Post.

The ordinance comes with a long list of conservative restrictions, including:

  • Chickens can only be kept in a fenced-in run or a coop
  • Butchering chickens at home is prohibited
  • Each house can only keep four chickens at a time
  • Chicken-keepers must be licensed annually.
