Bike Racks Being Proposed for Some Golden Valley Parks

Would you like to have bike racks at parks in Golden Valley?

Bike racks have been proposed for parks in Golden Valley.

The Golden Valley City Council will discuss city staff's recommendations on where possible bicycle racks could go, what kind, installation and costs.

Councilmember Steve Schmidgall brought up the idea and city staff prepared discussion points for the upcoming city manager/council work session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, in City Hall.

There are 20 possible park locations for bike racks (see map with this post).
Staff has based cost estimate for racks based on the basic type of "U" shaped racks (see photo with this post). If 20 racks were installed cost is estimated at $8,250. Broken down, that's about $5,000 for the racks plus $2,500 for installation and $750 for 10 percent contingency.

Possible park locations include: Gearty, Stockman, Medley, Wildwood, North Wesley, Lakeview, St. Croix, Hampshire, Scheid, Glenview Terrace, Seeman, Natchez, Yosemite, Lions, Brookview Park tennis courts, Schaper, and North and South Tyrol parks.

The council will only be discussing the proposal and would not make an official decision at the Aug. 13 work session.
